What Coverage & Limits Does the State of Utah Require?
In general, the state of Utah requires each owner/operator of a registered vehicle to be insured. In addition, Utah requires that you carry proof of auto insurance with you while driving, to show a law enforcement officer, if the request it. As of January, 2011, Utah law requires that owners/operators carry at least $25,000 per occurrence in liability coverage, and $65,000 aggregate (per year). Also, the minimum requirement for property damage to other's property is $15,000. Although the state of Utah has set these minimum coverage limits, in most accidents, they would be considered insufficient. It's highly recommended that owner/operators carry $50,000 per occurrence and $100,000 aggregate limits or higher.
